Actual Patients of Dr. Ackerman Before & After Photos

As the focal point of the face, the size and shape of your nose can enhance your entire facial structure. However, certain nasal imperfections like humps, a deviated septum, or a large and misshapen nose can cause facial disharmony and make the face look unbalanced and unattractive.

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that can improve the structure of your nose to provide a more balanced facial appearance and markedly beautify the entire face.

Dr. Ackerman is one of only a few rhinoplasty surgeons who are experts in Endonasal (no external incision) Nasal Surgery. This technique prevents an external scar, and in Dr. Ackerman’s opinion, creates a more refined nasal appearance.

Patient Testimonials

“My experience with Dr.Ackerman and his staff has been outstanding. The surgery went exactly as planned. My follow up appointments were very supportive and encouraging. I was so impressed with the results of the surgery that months later I came back for a second procedure!”

Benefits of a Rhinoplasty

Enhanced Facial Harmony

Rhinoplasty resculpts the noses of patients who are struggling with an overly large nose, wide nostrils, or visible nasal bumps in order to create a more harmonious facial appearance.

Corrected Breathing Obstructions

Nasal deformities can obstruct the natural airways, making breathing more difficult for some people. Rhinoplasty can address these issues to restore proper breathing function.

Improved Confidence

When a person’s facial aesthetic is disrupted, they can become insecure about their appearance. Rhinoplasty can provide them with an aesthetically pleasing nose that will boost their confidence and self-esteem.

Your Rhinoplasty Procedure

Consultation

Every patient has a unique nasal structure that should be evaluated before undergoing rhinoplasty. Dr. Ackerman will examine the condition of your nose and facial anatomy to determine which technique will best suit your needs. During your consultation, he will determine:

  • Which aspects of your nose need alterations
  • How your new nose will fit your overall facial proportions
  • What functional breathing issues need to be addressed

Incision Techniques

Closed Procedure: Incisions are placed inside the nose while the skin and nasal tissue are gently raised to reshape the underlying bone structure and produce a more refined nasal tip. This technique requires significant skill and experience, but can result in a more elegant nasal appearance.

Open Procedure: An external incision is made along the base of the nose (columella). Then, the nasal skin and tissue are raised and pulled back to reshape and resize the nose. After the nose has been sculpted, the remaining skin and tissue are redraped over the bone and stitched up using surgical sutures.

Revision Rhinoplasty

In some instances, some patients may require revision rhinoplasty to repair cosmetic or functional problems that developed from a previous nose surgery or injury. Dr. Ackerman is an experienced revision rhinoplasty surgeon who understands the unique needs of patients coming in for revisional surgery.

Concerns

  • Recovery

Following your rhinoplasty procedure, you will need to wear a nasal splint for one week to help protect and maintain your new contours. Swelling and bruising will occur but diminish after a few days. Be sure you keep your head elevated when resting to avoid putting any unnecessary pressure or stress on your nose. Most patients resume most normal activities and return to work 10 days after surgery.
  • Results

You can expect long-lasting to permanent results that will enhance your facial appearance and improve your self-confidence. The results of nasal surgery can be apparent right after the nasal splints removed, but your final results will become apparent approximately one year after your surgery.
  • Scars

While closed rhinoplasty hides the incisions on the inside of the nose, open rhinoplasty will result in minor scarring on the underside of your nose.
  • Pain

Most of Dr. Ackerman’s patients experience only mild to moderate discomfort for a day or two. This is achieved with his gentle and meticulous technique, as well as proper preoperative and postoperative care.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Am I a good candidate for rhinoplasty?

Ideal candidates for nose surgery must be in good health and have realistic expectations. You will be asked to stop smoking for at least three weeks before and after your surgery to prevent any complications from occurring during your procedure or recovery.
  • How long does nose surgery take to perform?

Rhinoplasty is performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia and can take between two and three hours to complete, depending on the extent of the correction necessary.
  • Are there any possible risks or side effects associated with rhinoplasty?

As with any surgery, there are some risks and side effects involved with rhinoplasty. Fortunately complications after this type of surgery are rather rare. There is a remote possibility of a nose bleed within a few days after surgery, infections are extremely rare, and some minor shape irregularities may develop on occasion during the healing period.
